Rollover crash kills 2, closes major Phoenix highway

A rollover crash in downtown Phoenix has killed two, injured seven and closed four westbound lanes on Interstate 10. The Arizona Republic reports that only two westbound lanes remain open on the highway at State Route 51 after the Sunday afternoon crash. A 7-year-old boy was transported in serious condition and an adult male in stable condition was also taken to an area hospital. The Arizona Department of Public Safety is on scene investigating. Phoenix Fire Department officials say three patients were taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and two patients under the age of 5 were taken in stable condition.

Mercedes Arissa Garcia, 11, and Luis James Garcia, 15, both of Maricopa, died at the scene. Maria Almadelia Farias Cervantes, 23, of Phoenix, died at a local hospital. Five more children, ranging from 3 to 14 years old, were injured. Two of them remain in critical condition.
