Fatal accident closes major Phoenix artery during commute

PHOENIX (AP) - A fatal collision has closed part of a major Phoenix traffic artery during the Friday morning commute. The Arizona Department of Transportation says Grand Avenue, also designated as U.S. 60, was closed between 35th and 43rd avenues. Police say a car rear-ended a pickup traveling northwesterly on Grand Avenue with enough force that the truck careened into a power pole, knocking out electricity service to the area. Police Sgt. Vince Lewis says speed was a factor in the crash.
