Pilot identified in fatal Prescott Valley glider crash

Robert Bauman, 74, of Prescott died in the crash that happened about 3 p.m. on Morning Star Ranch Road, east of Coyote Springs Road, a Yavapai County Sheriff's Office spokesman said.

The glider was launched while connected to a tow cable powered by a stationary winch, which pulls the glider up to speed while gaining altitude, D'Evelyn said. At some point during takeoff, Bauman appeared to lose control and descended rapidly.
