Five people returning to the Valley from a day trip to Tucson are dead after an overnight collision involving three vehicles occurred along eastbound I-10 north of Picacho Peak, the Arizona Department of Public Safety said.
Five people returning to the Valley from a day trip to Tucson are dead after an overnight collision involving three vehicles occurred along eastbound I-10 north of Picacho Peak, the Arizona Department of Public Safety said. The victims, all from Gilbert, were identified as: Shelly Renee Blackmore, 49 Danielle Blackmore, 20 Tyler, 12 Kayla, 9 Breanna, 7 A pickup truck driven by Tracy William Blackmore, 47, of Gilbert, was traveling westbound near Milepost 213 when the front left tire tread separated, according to a DPS spokesman. Blackmore lost control of the pickup and it traveled left across the depressed dirt median and then entered the eastbound traffic lanes of I-10 where it collided at an angle with an 18-wheeler, police said. A third vehicle, a passenger car, struck the pickup truck, police said. Tracy Blackmore was airlifted from the scene and is in critical condition at Maricopa Medical Center. The remaining five passengers traveling in the pickup truck were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the 18-wheeler suffered minor injuries and was transported by ground from the scene to Casa Grande Regional Hospital and then transferred to Chandler Regional Hospital.
