One dead in early morning car crash

An early morning crash has claimed the life of one person near Roger Road and Mountain Avenue. When officers arrived around 2:35 a.m. they found a 2012 Dodge Charger and a 1991 Volkswagen 4-door which had been involved in a crash.
An early morning crash has claimed the life of one person near Roger Road and Mountain Avenue. When officers arrived around 2:35 a.m. they found a 2012 Dodge Charger and a 1991 Volkswagen 4-door which had been involved in a crash. The driver of the Volkswagen was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Dodge Charger was not injured. Chris Widmer with TPD says detectives from the Traffic Investigations Unit determined that the Volkswagen was traveling westbound on Roger Road passing through the intersection of Mountain Avenue, which is a 4-way stop. The Dodge Charger was traveling extremely fast westbound on Roger Road. The Dodge Charger overtook and rear ended the Volkswagen in the intersection. The crash caused the Volkswagen to rotate and veer off the roadway into the dirt shoulder on the north side of the street. A DUI investigation was conducted and the driver was arrested. The driver has been identified as 21-year old Jean P. Villena-Celis. Villena-Celis was booked into the Pima County Jail for 1 count of 2nd Degree Murder and 1 count of Criminal Damage The driver of the Volkswagen was identified as 63-year old Juan Lorenzo Avila-Arce. Next of kin have been notified.
