Woman, Children Killed In Polk County Collision

Latosha Nicole Leathers, 23, was driving a 2002 Ford van north on U.S. 71, about 11.1 miles south of Mena, with two children riding as passengers when she lost control of the vehicle and entered backward into the southbound lane, according to an Arkansas State Police preliminary fatal crash summary.

Collision Claims the Lives of a Mother and Children

A fatal collision was reported to Polk County authorities shortly after 1 p.m. on Monday, April 6, 2015. A 2002 Ford Van was northbound on U.S. Hwy. 71 when it collided with a 1975 Peterbilt semi tractor-trailer around the Six-Mile Hill area between Hatfield and Cove.

Latosha Nicole Leathers was driving north on U.S. 71 with two children in the car when she lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tractor-trailer. All three people were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the tractor trailer, Marla Gayle Pipes, 52, was injured and taken to Mena Regional Health System for treatment.
