Driver identified in fatal big rig crash

The Shasta County Coroner's Office has released the name of the truck driver who was killed in a crash in Redding Thursday afternoon.
Herman Spero was driving a semi-truck on Interstate 5 when the vehicle left the exit ramp from southbound Interstate 5 at North Market Street, went down a steep embankment, and came to rest on its side. Spero died in the crash. Investigators believe he may have had a medical emergency that caused the accident. Spero's pet Scottish terrier survived the crash and is being looked after by animal control.
