Two-car crash kills Rio Dell woman; other driver, 3-year-old suffer major injuries

The California Highway Patrol, Humboldt County Sheriff's Office, CalFire, Garberville Volunteer Fire Department and Redway Volunteer Fire Department all responded to the scene.
At about 5:30, Baker and a 3-year-old child were traveling northward in a Suburban while Lockhart was traveling southward in a Silverado when Lockhart suddenly crossed into the oncoming lane and struck Baker's vehicle head-on. Baker was taken to Jerold Phelps Community Hospital, but eventually pronounced dead, while Lockhart and the child that was in Baker's vehicle sustained serious injuries. Investigation is ongoing, but so far it is believed that no alcohol or drugs were involved, and that everyone was wearing a seat belt and all air bags deployed properly. Check back for updates.
