Fatal hit-and-run crash involves big rig, motorcycle on Highway 41 near Hanford

The California Highway Patrol said the truck driver fled after the crash, which happened about 5 a.m. near Mt. Whitney Avenue.

Traffic on the highway was rerouted while the crash was investigated. The highway was reopened about 8 a.m.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) closed Highway 41 from Harlan Avenue to Laguna Avenue for several hours after a flatbed semi-truck slammed into a motorcycle, killing the rider. Investigators say the motorcycle was stopped at the traffic light when the truck struck from behind, dragging the motorcycle and the driver into a field.

Police say Appert did not see a red light or the motorcyclist, and plowed right in to him. Appert ran away from the crash, but was arrested.
