Officials say a small plane with three people aboard has crashed near the airport on Santa Catalina Island in Southern California

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor tells The Associated Press the Cessna 172 that had taken off from Long Beach Airport crashed under unknown circumstances at about 4:30 p.m. Sunday.
