1 Dead, 2 Injured After Car Crashes Into Home in Boyle Heights

One person was dead and two others were injured after their car rammed into an unoccupied home in Boyle Heights on Sunday, officials said. One man was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. The crash occurred in the 1600 block of Pleasant Avenue around 11:30 a.m., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. Another man was able to get out of the car and suffered minor injuries. Rescue crews were attempting to extricate one person who was trapped in the wreckage, officials said.

Authorities believe the driver was killed in the shooting and that his foot was stuck on the gas pedal, causing the car to plow into the house, Preciado said. The male passenger in the sedan was sitting in the backseat and was unable to stop the vehicle, he said.

Family members said 19-year-old Henry Sanchez and his 18-year-old girlfriend Maria Cordova were expecting a child. Cordova was almost three months pregnant. "My brother was with his girlfriend, he was excited, you know, that he was about to be a father and he was literally the day before he was really excited," Jesse Sanchez, the brother of Henry Sanchez, said. Police said a passenger in a black SUV opened fire into their car. Loved ones believe the couple was attempting to get away when their car slammed into a home along Pleasant Avenue.
