A Bakersfield woman was killed today when she was struck by a compact SUV while standing behind a pickup truck and trailer on the shoulder of the northbound Golden State (5) Freeway north of Castaic, setting off a chain of events that sent two other people to a hospital, authorities said. The fatal crash happened at 1:55 p.m., north of Lake Hughes Road and south of the lower crossover, according to California Highway Patrol Officer John Lutz.

Authorities on Monday identified a woman who was killed Sunday while standing behind a pickup truck and trailer along Interstate 5 near Castaic.
There were nine total victims, four were taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, two declined medical attention, two “met the trauma criteria guidelines” and one was dead on arrival.
