A Bakersfield woman was killed today when she was struck by a compact SUV while standing behind a pickup truck and trailer on the shoulder of the northbound Golden State (5) Freeway north of Castaic, setting off a chain of events that sent two other people to a hospital, authorities said.
The fatal crash happened at 1:55 p.m., north of Lake Hughes Road and south of the lower crossover, according to California Highway Patrol Officer John Lutz.
