Trash truck disaster: Compartment detaches, 60-year-old driver killed
The victim, a Wilmington resident, was ejected from the passenger compartment of the 2012 trash truck he was driving and ended up trapped beneath the vehicle, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation, but at this time it is believed that neither alcohol nor drugs played a role in the accident. The 48-year-old Blythe man who was driving the other vehicle was not injured and has not been arrested.

Body of Compton Garbage Truck Driver Identified
Vargas was driving the 2012 truck westbound on Compton Boulevard, entering the intersection with Broadway in Rosewood, about 5:40 a.m. Thursday when it collided with a southbound 2016 Mack truck driven by a 48-year-old Blythe man, according to the California Highway Patrol.
