Multiple Big Rigs Involved in 210 Freeway Crashes.

Rain may have contributed to a series of collisions that closed down the transition lanes of the eastbound Foothill (210) Freeway in Pasadena early Thursday, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Rain may have contributed to a series of collisions that closed down the transition lanes of the eastbound Foothill (210) Freeway in Pasadena early Thursday, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Three different collisions occurred overnight, one which involved multiple big rigs and closed the eastbound 210 two-lane tunnel connector just after 11:30 p.m. Wednesday.

"Initially after the first truck jackknifed, another car carrier came through the collision scene and attempted to stop and hit a car that had stopped and was able to avoid the initial collision," CHP Sgt. Barry K. Jones said. "And then the two trucks behind me ran into each other trying to stop. They avoided the first collision but then had a collision of their own and overturned the trailer."

The driver of the first truck was transported to a local hospital to treat cuts on the face.

Jones said that "driving a little fast for the wet road conditions" and "not slowing down" may have caused the crashes.

Another crash occurred on the westbound 210 Freeway around 12:30 a.m. A big rig jackknifed and crashed into a sedan, according to CHP. The transition road on the westbound 210 Freeway was closed for over two hours Thursday morning.

A third crash was reported near the 134 Freeway connector to the 210 Freeway.

Jones advised drivers to be caution given the rainy conditions.

"Well anytime you enter into a curve where you can’t clearly see ahead, you should always reduce your speed, number one, cause it’s wet and you can’t see clearly, and then that would allow you time sufficient enough to stop and avoid anything that might be ahead of you," Jones said.

Rain was reported in much of Southern California during the time of the crashes. Rain is expected in the region through Saturday.
