Violent Crash Leaves Car Wrapped Around Traffic Pole in Pasadena; 1 Killed, 4 Others Injured

One person inside the Mustang was killed and three others were seriously injured, Derderian said.

A fifth person, who was driving in a mid-size SUV that was involved in the crash, suffered only minor injuries, Derderian said.

Pasadena police said a maroon Ford Mustang was traveling southbound on Lake Avenue, when a blue SUV turned left onto Villa Street in front of the Mustang. The cars collided, sending the Mustang into a light pole.

The driver of the Mustang died at the scene, and the front passenger died after being transported to a hospital.

Reynold Chilel-Ramirez, 23, was driving about 7 a.m. when the Mustang collided with a mid-sized SUV at Lake Avenue and Villa Street, then struck a light pole and split in half.

Ramirez was rushed to the hospital, where he died from his injuries. His passenger, Adelfo Chilel-Lopez, 17, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators are looking for surveillance video and were interviewing witnesses to determine what happened moments before the vehicles collided, Hettema said.

Early estimates show the Ford’s speeds were in excess of 80 mph, he said. Speeds may have been higher at impact.
