Sheriff's deputies say the driver behind the wheel lost control of a newer-model Nissan and hit a tree near Centurion Way and Bouquet Canyon Road around 11:50 p.m.

Tyler Hartman, 22, of Newbury Park, died at the scene, coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter said, and the driver was hospitalized with serious injuries.

Meantime, Hartman’s friend and roommate, Justin Rongstad, was reported in critical condition at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital, hospital spokesman Patrick Moody said.
