Metrolink train fatally strikes bicyclist who rode around gate.

A Metrolink train bound for Orange County from downtown L.A. fatally struck a bicyclist Thursday during the morning commute in Santa Fe Springs, officials said.

A Metrolink train bound for Orange County from downtown L.A. fatally struck a bicyclist Thursday during the morning commute in Santa Fe Springs, officials said.

The incident occurred around 7:10 a.m. near Lakeland Road and Bloomfield Avenue when the cyclist went around an arm gate and was struck by Metrolink train 682, according to a Metrolink spokesman.

No information on the identity or age of the cyclist was immediately available.

About 160 passengers were aboard the commuter train when the incident happened.

No other injuries were reported.

Metrolink officials arranged for buses to take the passengers to their final destinations. Other trains traveling between Norwalk and Santa Fe Springs were temporarily stopped as police investigate the scene.

The incident has forced the cancellation of at least one Amtrak train.

Body was againts the south side wall... Didn't get crushed by train.

I heard the debris hit under the train car this morning. I was on the first floor of the car immediately behind the locomotive.
