The crash happened in the eastbound lanes near Malki road. Two eastbound lanes were closed while crews cleared the scene.

The CHP says the men were traveling eastbound in the SUV, when the tread on one of the vehicle's tires "separated completely from the tire". The driver lost control of the SUV, which crossed four lanes of traffic, and crashed into the back end of a semi truck, which had stopped on the shoulder of the freeway.
