Winchester wrong-way DUI crash kills 1, injures 5.

Drunk driving is believed to be the cause of a deadly wrong-way crash involving three vehicles in the Winchester area of Riverside County Saturday night.
Drunk driving is believed to be the cause of a deadly wrong-way crash involving three vehicles in the Winchester area of Riverside County Saturday night. The fatal incident occurred at the intersection of Leon Road and Domenigoni Parkway around 10:10 p.m. Gerardo Cornejo, 20, of Nuevo was driving a 1994 Honda Civic westbound in the eastbound lane when he slammed head-on into a 2007 Suzuki RX4. That's when the 20-year-old spun around, and was hit by a Dodge Ram pickup truck. A male passenger in the Suzuki, Amos Yang, 27, of Banning, was taken to Menifee Valley Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries. A 4-year-old girl in the Suzuki's back seat was taken to Inland Valley Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. The driver of the Suzuki, Pa Thao, 27, of Banning, was rushed to Inland Valley Medical Center with serious injuries. Her condition remains unknown. Two people in the Dodge suffered minor injuries. The driver was identified as a 26-year-old female from Hemet and the right front passenger was identified as a 33-year-old male from Hemet. Cornejo was transported to Inland Valley Medical Center with major head and internal injuries. Officials say he may not survive. CHP officials believe Cornejo was under the influence. The investigation is ongoing.
