Boys, 3 And 5, Drown After ATV Crash In Placer County

The California Highway Patrol says the boys died Sunday despite lifesaving efforts by a father who jumped into the water and pulled both children ashore.

Boys drown after driving ATV into Placer County pond

A neighbor who lives just outside the community gates said it is common in the area to see kids riding mini-ATVs.

5-year-old Jayden James Secrest was driving a child-sized ATV on his parent's property, with his friend Blake Lee Cronkhite, 3, riding on the back. At some point the boys were riding near a pond when they lost control and drove the ATV into it. Apparently though there were adults present, no one saw the boys drive into the pond, but as soon as their fathers saw the ATV floating in the water they rushed to the pond, pulled them ashore, and began CPR. Despite their efforts, both children were pronounced dead, with the cause of death listed as drowning.

How can a lawyer help with an auto accident claim?

First, having a lawyer on your side levels the playing field. The person who caused the accident is required to immediately turn the case over to his or her insurance company. The insurance company uses adjusters and lawyers who are specifically trained to deny or reduce your claim. This may include denying compensation to family members who are entitled to receive benefits for loss of companionship. Learn more here about what a lawyer does in auto accident cases.
