5 killed in San Joaquin County crash, CHP says

A car flew off I-5, hit a highway sign, crashed through a fence and then slammed into a tree. The car was driving at a high rate of speed and for an unknown reason lost control, CHP Stockton said Friday morning.

Officers say the driver, a 42-year-old Tracy woman and three other people were killed in the crash.

Authorities said a man driving a 1997 Toyota was driving northbound on I-5 at a high rate of speed when he made an “unsafe turning movement” before going off-road and hitting a tree.

Family and friends have since left stuffed animals and other items at the scene of the crash to pay tribute to the lives lost.
