The CHP said it did not appear alcohol contributed to the crash and that all involved in the crash were wearing seat belts.
A Lake County woman died Saturday in a head-on collision on Highway 101 near Cloverdale, California. Wanda Shields, 67, of Nice, died in the collision that happened just before 9 a.m. north of Geysers Road. Shields was a passenger in 1998 Buick driven by Donald Shields, 74. They were driving south when they were hit by a 2004 Honda driven by Xaun Zau, 30, of Kirkland, Washington State, who had been driving north and swerved to avoid an object in the road, lost control of the car, entered into the southbound lanes, and crashed into the Shields’ car. Donald Shields sustained major injuries and was taken by helicopter to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. A passenger in Zau’s car, Jiapeng Lu, 33, of Kirkland, also sustained major injuries and was transported by ambulance to Ukiah Valley Medical Center.
