Police investigating Pedestrian killed in collision in Fremont

Police are investigating a fatal traffic collision involving a pedestrian that occurred in Fremont Wednesday morning.At 6:41 a.m., officers responded to a report that a pedestrian had been struck on Fremont Boulevard, near Old Warm Springs Road, according to police.When officers arrived, officers found a male lying on the road's shoulder suffering life-threatening injuries, police said.Medical personnel transported the victim to a hospital, however he did not survive, according to police.Officers initially investigated the collision as a hit-and-run, but the driver eventually returned to the scene and cooperated with police.Officers determined the female driver was driving south on Fremont Boulevard when she allegedly struck the victim, police said.The cause of the collision remains under investigation.Officers are continuing to collect evidence from the scene and have closed one lane of southbound Fremont Boulevard, between Old Warm Springs Road and Ice House Terrace. The lane will remain closed until around noon, according to police.Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Fremont police Officer Alan Zambonin at (510) 790-6800.

Fremont: Pedestrian killed by car identified

FREMONT -- A man struck and killed by a car Wednesday morning was identified as John Wesley Willingham III, 57, according to the Alameda County coroner's bureau. Wednesday by silver Lexus ES sedan on Fremont Boulevard near Old Warm Springs Road, police said. The Fremont resident was hit about 6:40 a.m. The driver was going south on Fremont Boulevard. Police did not identify the woman or indicate where she lived but said she was on her way to work.
