Two reported killed in head-on crash on River
The CHP issued a public alert that River Road would be closed between Laughlin and Olivet Roads for some time due to a major crash and emergency vehicles were blocking the roadway.

One man killed in a fiery head-on River Road collision Monday was identified Tuesday as Jerry Ray Thompson, 58, of Windsor but the other driver’s identity remained to be verified.
Sonoma County Sheriffs Office IDs second man killed
The second motorist killed in a fiery head-on collision Monday on River Road was identified Friday as Joseph Giancola Jr., 27, of Santa Rosa.
At around 2:30 p.m. Monday, a Lexus sedan was westbound on River Road near Laughlin Road and Martinelli Winery when it suddenly crossed the double-yellow line into the oncoming lane and accelerated into the path of an eastbound Ford Ranger. Both drivers shifted toward the shoulder on the south side of the road in an apparent attempt to avoid the collision, at which point the crashed head-on. Both vehicles went airborne upon impact and spun out of control, according to California Highway Patrol. The sedan burst into flames before coming to a rest in a ditch. The pickup came to rest after crashing into a utility pole. Both the Lexus driver and the Ranger driver, a Santa Rosa man in his mid-50s, died at the scene. A dog in the pickup perished as well.
