Woman killed in crash on Pittsburg-Antioch highway

A 25-year-old Pittsburg woman died Thursday night after the car she was in spun out of control and struck a utility pole, forcing the Pittsburg-Antioch Highway's closure overnight, Antioch police said today.Around 10:47 p.m., Antioch police officers were working on an assignment near E. 14th and Columbia streets in Pittsburg, when they spotted a speeding Lexus, according to police.The Lexus was traveling east on E. 14th Street. Police attempted to catch up with the Lexus, as it continued onto the Pittsburg-Antioch Highway, police said.Just after passing Loveridge Road, the driver of the Lexus apparently lost control and struck the pole, causing the vehicle to roll and land on its roof.Two of the vehicle's occupants were ejected from the Lexus and the third occupant was able to free himself and crawl out, according to police.

Rodeo woman killed in solo-vehicle crash in Antioch during police chase

The deceased woman was identified by the Contra Costa County Coroner's Officer on Friday as Leona Moreno, of Rodeo. Police originally said Moreno was from Pittsburg. Police say Moreno and two men, ages 26 and 21, were speeding in a stolen Lexus on Thursday night when police chased them east from Pittsburg to Antioch.

But in Moreno's death, police say that both the vehicle's surviving occupants told investigators that the other guy was driving. A California Highway Patrol officer conducted a three-month investigation into the crash, and even took DNA samples of both men to test against samples taken from the car's seats, but could not determine who was driving.
