Elijah Dunn, 4, killed, and three people injured in collision involving alleged drunk driver on Interstate 680 in San Ramon, California

The CHP has arrested the driver of the SUV, a woman, for felony DUI. This comes after the family received the devastating news that 4-year-old Elijah Dunn died after being transported to the hospital.

The CHP says that’s when 39-year-old Yarinet Malihan of Pleasanton crashed into the parked car. CHP officers arrested her for driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter. She is the wife of an Alameda County Sheriff’s Deputy.

Pleasanton resident Yarenit Liliana Malihan, 39, was arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence and gross vehicular manslaughter, according to the CHP.

Once investigators receive the report, they can submit the final case to the to the district attorney’s office, who will determine the charges -- if any -- to be filed against Pleasanton resident Yarenit Liliana Malihan.

     But on Friday at noon, police were called to the intersection of Sunol Rd. and Bernal to reports of a woman lying in the street. Police found Malihan, who appeared to be intoxicated. She was later arrested.

This is her third alcohol or drug-related arrest in less than a year.   

The California Highway Patrol says 40-year-old Yarenit Malihan, who is married to an Alameda County Sheriff’s deputy, was charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and with felony driving under the influence.     

Yarenit Malihan, 40, surrendered to the CHP and is now in custody at the Contra Costa County Jail in Martinez, according to the spokesman.     

Officials with the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office said Yarenit Liliana Malihan, 40, will be in court at 8:30 a.m. on July 25 in Martinez.
