Witnesses reportedly said that the worker was trying to retrieve a cell phone that was dropped near the platform of the ride when he was dragged for about 15 feet.
Great America ride remains closed following accident
An official statement from Great America read: At approximately 8:10 PM last night Friday, June 12th a Great America associate was struck by a train returning to the station of the Flight Deck roller coaster. Authorities are looking into whether there was a ride malfunction, though park officials have indicated that's not the case.
A park worker was apparently struck in the head by a rider at 8:15 p.m. Friday on the Flight Deck roller coaster. The rider sustained a hand injury, whild the worker was traumatically injured.
