Calhan man killed in crash on Highway 94 east of Colorado Springs

There were no passengers in either vehicle.

Colorado State Patrol says a Calhan man was killed in a crash Tuesday night at around 6:00 p.m. on Highway 94 about 13 miles east of Colorado Springs. A 1996 Toyota Corolla driven by Philip Cooley was eastbound on Highway 94 when it slowed to make a left turn onto northbound Peyton Highway. A 2001 Dodge 2500 driven by Jesse Matamales of Yoder was traveling behind the Toyota failed to slow down and crashed into the back of the Toyota. The two vehicles remained attached to each other and skid for about 153 feet. Cooley was pronounced dead at the scene. Matamales sustained minor injuries and was charged with careless driving causing death and no proof of insurance.
