Small plane crash in El Paso County

A single-engine plane has crashed in El Paso County near Palmer Lake north of Highway 105 Wednesday morning.

There were two trains on the railroad track which were advised to stop due to their proximity to the crash, according to El Paso County Sheriff's Department.

Two people were onboard the single-engine plane when it crashed into a field in the northern El Paso County community, Allen Kenitzer said local authorities told him. Kenitzer is the public information officer for the Northwestern Mountain Region of the Federal Aviation Administration.

The plane's make, model and registration is unknown, Kenitzer said.

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office is investigating the crash, but has not released any information about the cause or the condition of the two occupants.

The Denver Post identified the plane as a 1928 Curtiss Wright Travel Air 4000.

Two people were on board when the plane went down, according to the Post. There is no word on the second person.

Investigators determined conditions "prevailed for the flight," meaning conditions were sufficient for flying March 2 when the pilots left Vance Brand Airport, near Longmont, about 7:15 a.m. They were flying near Palmer Lake about 8 a.m. when they apparently lost control and crashed the Curtis Wright Travel Air 4000 into the a field, the report said.
