Arvada police: Alcohol, speed led to motorcycle crash that killed 2

Monica Vermilyea, the 49-year-old Arvada woman killed in the wreck, had never been on a motorcycle. The Jefferson County Coroner's Office says Grebenc and Vermilyea died of blunt force injuries. Theodore Grebenc and Monica Vermilyea died in the Friday accident Arvada police said Friday that speed, alcohol and inexperience on a motorcycle were all factors in a single-vehicle crash last week that left a man and woman dead. "The posted speed limit is 30 mph," police say. Theodore Grebenc, a 48-year-old from Arvada, had recently acquired the motorcycle and had not been riding regularly for several years when he was driving at the time of Aug. 14 wreck, police say.

Speed, inexperience may have caused double fatal crash

ARVADA - The Arvada Police Department said speed, alcohol and inexperience may have contributed to a motorcycle accident that killed two people last week. Police said the man had recently gotten the motorcycle and did not ride it regularly for several years. The victims were identified as a 48-year-old man and 49-year-old woman. Police said the man was driving the motorcycle eastbound on 72nd Avenue at Nile, where he failed to turn properly and struck the curb at about 45 to 50 mph. The posted speed limit is 30 mph.
