A trooper with the Colorado State Patrol was seriously injured when a van hit her patrol car while investigating a crash. Trooper Adeline Roybal was in her patrol car on the left shoulder and median of Interstate 70 near mile marker 292 around 10:45 p.m. Thursday when she was hit by a 1996 Ford van. The collision was so intense it pushed Roybal’s Crown Victoria and another patrol car into the median. Roybal suffered serious injuries and was taken to Aurora South Medical Center for treatment. The driver of the van was also taken to the hospital. Troopers identified him as Ricardo Guzman, 40, of Denver. The investigation into the crash continues, but troopers said it appears Guzman was traveling too fast for the icy conditions at the time. A passenger in the van was also hurt, troopers said.
