An RTD light rail train and an SUV crashed in downtown Denver Thursday afternoon just as the afternoon rush was beginning.

The crash happened at Speer Boulevard and Kalamath. The area was blocked and motorists were told to avoid that part of downtown and find other routes. Traffic was snarled and there were major delays.

Denver Police say Kalamath was closed between Colfax and Speer.

There were minor injuries. Reports from the scene indicated a second ambulance was asked to respond. The number of people hurt was not released.

RTD says all “D,” “F” and “H” line trains were being diverted to Union Station.

There was no estimate on when things would be cleaned up and reopened.
