Cab driver going the wrong way causes deadly, fiery crash on Monaco near Yale, police say

"There was a metro cab that was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of traffic," said Technician Tyrone Campbell. 

The cab collided with a silver Hyundai and then rolled. 

Two die in Sunday morning crash

The taxi driver and the driver of the oncoming Hyundai were both killed. There were no passengers in either vehicle. Identities of both drivers have not been released.

“We are shocked and deeply saddened at the events and the loss of life,” said Robert McBride, president and owner of Metro Taxi Denver, said in a statement released Sunday afternoon. “We offer our condolences the drivers’ family and friends. This is an indescribable tragedy.”

The video was posted to YouTube, saying it shows the aftermath of the collision near South Monaco Parkway and East Yale Avenue.

Driver killed in head-on collision with Metro Taxi cab identified

Konstantinos Mantourlias, 71, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash near South Monaco Parkway and East Yale Avenue about 6 a.m. An autopsy by the coroner determined the cause of death was blunt force injuries.
