The vehicle "became airborne and rolled multiple times, coming to rest on its wheels facing northwest," the state patrol said in a news release issued late Saturday.
Officials withe the Colorado State Patrol say a 16-year-old Oklahoma girl was behind the wheel of a Lexus SUV when it crashed at about 3:30 p.m. roughly three miles north of Fairplay on U.S. 285. The SUV was northbound when it went off the right side of the road, swerved left into southbound traffic and then veered back right into a post. The driver and an 11-year-old girl from Durango sitting in the front passenger seat were brought to hospitals for injuries they sustained in the wreck. Another passenger, 35-year-old Benjamin Anderson, was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.
