Speed, drugs suspected in crash that killed CU-Boulder student near Steamboat

Sunday at the 123 milemarker of U.S. 40 between Milner and Steamboat Springs, according to Colorado State Patrol Trooper Josh Lewis. The 2008 Jeep SUV involved in a crash near Steamboat Springs on Sunday that killed a University of Colorado student. (Steamboat Srpings Fire Rescue) State troopers suspect high speed and drug impairment were factors in a rollover crash outside Steamboat Springs over the weekend that claimed the life of a 21-year-old University of Colorado student and left two of her friends with serious injuries. The case is still under investigation and no citations have been issued yet, but Lewis said both speed and drug impairment are suspected to have been factors in the crash. The Jeep went down an embankment, up an opposing embankment, hit a fence and then rolled twice, finally landing on its wheels, Lewis said. Lewis said both Cook and Pesaran were wearing seatbelts.
