A West Haven teen was killed after crashing her Jeep on Interstate 384 eastbound in Manchester over the weekend, according to state police.

Kaitlyn R. Carney, 18, was eastbound on I-384 in Manchester about 3:30 a.m. Saturday when the Jeep Grand Cherokee she was driving went out of control, struck a concrete barrier, and then rolled over. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

State police are asking anyone who saw anything to call Trooper Marcin Pirog at the Hartford barracks at 860-534-1000, ext. 6162.

Carney was a freshman at Western Connecticut State University in Danbury and a graduate of Lyman Hall High School, according to her obituary.

Two drivers were hurt and traffic was backed up after an accident on I-384 Thursday morning.

Firefighters were dispatched to the scene on the westbound side, just after the on-ramp from South Main Street, at about 7:25 a.m. A 45-year-old Manchester woman driving a PT Cruiser was either entering the highway or had stopped in the breakdown lane when her car was struck from behind by a car driven by a 22-year-old East Hartford man, Assistant Fire Chief David Billings wrote in a news release.

Kaitlyn Marie Winstel, 21, died following a fatal crash Sunday night, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Winstel was driving northbound in the 4200 block of Kernan Blvd. near Blue Stream Drive when she ran off the road, hit a curb and crashed into a concrete light pole.

Jacksonville Fire and Rescue responded to the crash. Winstel was Life Flighted to UF Health Jacksonville where she later died from her injuries.

Investigators are awaiting test results to determine if drugs and/or alcohol were a factor in this crash.

A teenage girl died and another was injured in a high-speed wreck on an isolated street near the Port of Oakland early Friday morning, an area known for illegal street racing.

Police officers responding to reports of an accident just after midnight on the 500 block of Maritime Street found that a vehicle had left the roadway and collided with a pole, officials said.

The girls in the vehicle, both 17-year-olds from outside Oakland, were taken to a hospital, where the driver, who has been identified as Kaitlyn Benson, was later pronounced dead.

Police are investigating an accident in which a university student was struck by a car and seriously injured while crossing a street in Bridgeport. The female student from Sacred Heart University was struck around 1 p.m. on Friday across from a sorority house where she lives.The university said the student, a junior, was being treated at St. Bridgeport police spokesman William Kaempffer told the Connecticut Post the woman was in critical condition. The driver involved in the accident was cooperating with police.

A 21-year-old woman was killed after a car traveling in the wrong direction on the Sawgrass Expressway struck a car she was in early Sunday morning, according to officials.

Marisa Caran Catronio, from Coral Springs, was pronounced dead on the scene following the collision, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Authorities said a 2004 Hyundai Sonata being driven by 20-year-old Kayla Maria Mendoza was going the wrong way eastbound on the Sawgrass Expressway westbound lanes when it struck a 2012 Toyota Camry head-on at about 1:45 a.m west of University Drive.

Authorities say a 15-year-old driver and his mother are dead following a crash involving a tanker truck hauling milk in St. Clair County.

The sheriff’s department says Jarrod Robert Smith, who had a learner’s permit, was driving an SUV around 3:30 p.m. Thursday in Burtchville Township when he stopped at an intersection and turned left into the path of the semi.

The department says the Wixom boy and his 52-year-old mother, Karen Kay Smith, died.

Homicide-by-vehicle charges have been filed against a Lancaster man following a three-vehicle crash Saturday.

According to reports, Carlos R. Garcia, 33, has been charged with homicide by vehicle, aggravated assault by vehicle, accidents involving death while not properly licensed, endangering the welfare of children, reckless driving and driving while under suspension – DUI related.

Reports indicate the crash occurred around 1:20 p.m. Saturday on the 1300 block of E. King St., Lancaster, when Garcia struck the rear of another vehicle.
