Teen driver strikes utility pole on Mechanic Street, causing power outages and brush fire in Putnam, Connecticut

A 16-year-old was driving north on on Mechanic Street when they struck a utility pole. The impact of the crash caused the power lines to come down, starting a brush fire and causing power outages in parts of Putnam and Thompson. Firefighters were able to contain the brush fire, and it took utility crews several hours to repair the pole. The driver was taken to Day Kimball Hospital with minor injuries.
