Route 82/Norwich Road is shut down in the area of Route 354/Old Colchester Road and Harris Road in Salem after a van hit a pole, according to police.

The accident was reported just before 12:30 p.m. Saturday. The phone pole and wires are down and Connecticut Light and Power crews are making repairs.

Fire officials at the scene said four people were trapped after live wires fell on top of the van. They were transported to Backus Hospital, where they are all listed in stable condition.

CL&P said 367 customers are without power due to the crash. Crews plan to cut the wire and re-energize the line on two separate circuits in an effort to restore power as quickly as possible.
