Paige was a first year student at Wesley College in Dover where she majored in elementary education and special education (K-12), according to a Wesley spokesperson. The college on Tuesday afternoon held a debrief and grief support meeting in memory of Paige.

She was hit by a Mazda that had just turned left from Walker Road onto North State Street, Hoffman said. Paige was rushed to Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, but later pronounced dead from blunt force trauma.

Brittany Paige was jogging around 5 p.m. on State Street when she walked between stopped vehicles at the Walker Road intersection. She began to jog across the northbound lanes of State Street without checking for oncoming traffic when she was hit by a car. She had headphones in and was looking at her cellphone, according to witnesses. She later died from her injuries.
