Pedestrian, Struck Killed By Tractor-Trailer InDelaware

Officials say the 78-year-old victim was attempting to cross the southbound lanes of US Rt. 13 south of DE Rt. 141, when he stepped into the path of a 2001 Volvo tractor trailer which was being driven by John Davis, 60, of Westville, New Jersey. Police say Davis hit the brakes and swerved to his left in an effort to avoid the victim, but the man fell into the roadway where he was then struck by the tractor-trailer.

Police have identified the man struck and killed by a tractor trailer hauling garbage Tuesday morning in New Castle, Delaware.78-year-old William Warren of Delaware City, Del. was struck while trying to cross southbound lanes of Route 13.It happened at 6:38 a.m. Tuesday near the Basin Road intersection.The driver of the 2001 Volvo tractor trailer did stop at the scene and remained to talk to investigators.So far, no charges have been filed.The incident remains under investigation.
