Newark Police are investigating a serious six-car crash that left an eight-month-old girl hospitalized in critical condition Thursday.
Newark Police are investigating a serious six-car crash that left an eight-month-old girl hospitalized in critical condition Thursday. It happened around 11 a.m. on Capital Trail at the Windy Hills Bridge. Police say a southbound Dodge Neon operated by a 36-year-old woman, with two small children inside, slid on the icy roadway and into the path of a northbound Honda Accord, operated by a 75-year-old man with a 75-year-old female passenger. The Neon was struck on the passenger side by the front of the Accord. According to police, a second northbound Honda Accord attempted to avoid the initial collision and struck a southbound Nissan Altima. The Altima then spun into a Toyota Highlander, which was also southbound. A third northbound vehicle, a SUV, was unable to avoid the collision and struck one of the previously involved vehicles. Police say an eight-month-old girl from the Dodge Neon was transported to Christiana Hospital with internal injuries and is listed in critical condition. A three-year-old girl, also from the Dodge Neon, was also transported to Christiana Hospital for evaluation. Both children were restrained in car seats. The driver of the Neon along with the driver and passenger of the Honda Accord from the first collision were all transported to Christiana Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Capital Trail was closed in both directions for about three hours while police conducted a preliminary investigation.
