Fatal motorcycle crash closes Kings Highway near I-75

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - Kings Highway has reopened after deadly accident near I-75 Wednesday night. According to Florida Highway Patrol, 23-year-old Andrew Smith of Punta Gorda was driving his motorcycle south on Kings Highway around 9:14pm, approaching the intersection with the northbound I-75 on ramp. Troopers say that's when a Toyota SUV driven by 60-year-old Marie Virgile of Port Charlotte was northbound on Kings Highway and attempting to access the northbound I-75 on ramp. She didn't see the approaching motorcycle and pull out into its path. The motorcycle slammed into the front of the SUV and slid off the road.

Motorcycle accidents are more likely to end in serious injuries or death for the motorcyclist, since the rider is not protected from the force of a collision. Andrew was a Student with us....Andrew was one of my Favorite kids!! Thinking of the Family with Fondess and Love!
