Ofc. Ben Tobias, Public Information Officer for Gainesville Police Department, said, "We got a call from a female that said she had just struck a pedestrian with her vehicle."
The driver was at the intersection of Main Street and University Avenue. Gambles was walking on University Ave. when he took a step into oncoming traffic, getting injuries which sent him to Shands and killed him.
