An Alachua County sheriff's lieutenant on scene confirmed that the crash involved a fatality. Four vehicles were involved, two pickup trucks, a sport utility vehicle and a car.

Christopher Chircop Jr. had previously crashed his pickup truck against the northbound inside guardrail, according to a Florida Highway Patrol media release. Chircop was in the inside lane near mile marker 415 when he was struck.
