One man is missing and another was seriously injured after the boat they were riding on hit a buoy where Trout River empties into the St. Johns River.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office and U.S. Coast Guard, both men were thrown from the boat when it struck Trout River Cut Lighted Buoy 63 about 10:10 a.m.

Another boater saw one of the men and pulled him from the water, and brought him to a JSO station nearby. He was taken to UF Health with serious injuries.

The missing man is believed to be the 67-year-old owner of the boat.

Police, the Coast Guard, Jacksonville Fire-Rescue and officers with the Florida Fish Wildlife Conservation Commission were searching for the second boater from the water and with helicopters and a plane. A JSO dive team was also called to the scene.
