2 teenage girls hospitalized after falling from pickup truck in St. Johns County

Both Almstead and Childre are students at Pedro Menendez High School in St. Augustine. The St. Johns County School District will provide support and resources as needed to the school’s students and staff, Christina Langston, school system spokeswoman told the Times-Union.
Two teen girls suffered serious head injuries after falling from the bed of a pickup truck driven by a third unidentified teen Saturday night in St. Johns County. Alexa M. Almstead, 16 and Isabelle S. Childre, 17, were transported to UF Health Jacksonville after the accident around 6 p.m. at Gilda Drive and Christina Drive in St. Augustine Shores. Almstead was listed in critical condition, while Childre was in serious condition as of midnight early Sunday. Almstead and Childre had been riding in the bed of a 2004 Chevrolet pickup driven by a 16-year-old girl, whose name wasn’t released immediately.  Kelshaw said charges are pending in the incident, which is being investigated by traffic homicide detectives with the Sheriff’s Office’s Major Crimes Unit.
