A driver was arrested on DUI charges after he crashed his truck into two cars and a house in Cooper City Sunday night, authorities said.

Matthew Lingwood, 28, was arrested after the crash at 10806 S. Saratoga Drive, the Broward Sheriff's Office said.

"Right now the suspect is facing a host of charges including three counts of DUI with property damage, one count of DUI on a first offense, four counts of DUI with serious injury, one count of reckless driving and an additional count of possession of marijuana with intent to sell or deliver," a BSO spokesman said.

According to police, five people were hospitalized in the crash, including a family of four who were in a red Hyundai when they were struck. An 18-month-old boy and his 9-year-old sister were in the back seat.

"Even though the rear end damage forced that car seat to be wedged between the back row and front row of seats, that car seat no doubt saved that child's life and probably the other occupants of the vehicle that were properly restrained," police said.

The pickup truck crossed the median after rear-ending the Hyundai and ended up at the home's backyard on Peach Court.

None of the injuries were life threatening and the home didn't suffer structural damage, police said.

Lingwood appeared in bond court Monday, where he was ordered held on $70,100 bond. It was unknown whether he has an attorney.
