Driver in Pompano Beach Hit-And-Run That Left Woman Critical Arrested: BSO

A hit-and-run driver who left a woman in critical condition after he struck her in Pompano Beach has been arrested, authorities said. She landed in the roadway, and the driver fled the scene headed northbound on Northwest 31st Avenue, officials said. Officials said Crews was walking eastbound across Northwest 31st Avenue around 12:45 a.m. when a 2005 Chevrolet Outlander driven by Mayo headed northbound on Northwest 31st Avenue struck her at the intersection at Northwest Second Street. Mayo, of North Lauderdale, was booked into jail and later released, and it's unknown if he's hired an attorney. Mayo's vehicle had damage which he had started to repair when he was arrested, officials said.

Tips help detectives make arrest in Pompano hit-run, officials say

But it was tips made to Broward County Crime Stoppers that led detectives to Mayo, Carter said. Since the 12:45 a.m. crash, Crews has been a patient at Broward Health North in Deerfield Beach. A North Lauderdale man had begun repairing his minivan when detectives arrested him Saturday on suspicion of leaving the scene of an accident, the Broward Sheriff's Office said. Mayo was charged with failing to stop or remain at an accident involving serious injuries and tampering with or fabricating evidence. Her injuries are life-threatening, Broward Sheriff's spokeswoman Gina Carter said Wednesday.
