Girl, 10, dead in Marion County crash on I-75, FHP says

A 10-year-old girl is dead and two others are hurt after a crash Saturday in Marion County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
A fatal crash occurred at 2:41 p.m. Saturday on Interstate 75 when a Kia Sorento and a Chrysler Pacifica collided. The driver of the Sorento, Pearlie M. Gibbs, 35, began to change into the left lane, which caused the driver of the Pacifica, Kevin Chasteen, 21, to swerve to avoid the Sorento. He drove onto the paved shoulder and then attempted to reenter the interstate, and both vehicles collided. Gibbs was transported to UF Health Gainesville with life-threatening injuries. FHP said a passenger in the Sorrento, Jamiya Postell, 10, was not wearing her seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. She was pronounced deceased at the crash site. Jakera Postell, 18, another passenger in the Sorento, was transported to UF Health Gainesville with minor injuries.
