Three vehicles were involved in the crash. Authorities closed US-1 in both directions to work the scene and investigate the crash.

All five people killed were in the same car, and three people from other vehicles were taken to an area hospital, officials said.

The driver of the Mazda and all four passengers died at the scene, authorities said. They included a 74-year-old Miami woman, a 70-year-old Miramar woman, and two Pembroke Pines women, one 53 and one 64, according to the FHP.

Santana and all four of his passengers died in the accident, according to FHP. The passengers were identified as Maria Rosario Cedeno, 74, of Miami; Olga Melania Nunez, 70, of Miramar; Gloria Santana, 53, of Pembroke Pines; and Sonia Elena Melendez, 64, of Pembroke Pines.
